6.1" Geode Agate Hand Carved Crystal Geode Skull

A skull worked in geode agate. At 6.1 inches and 2032 g it wants a shelf of its own rather than a desk corner.

An agate geode forms as silica lines the inside of a cavity, layer on layer, until the space closes or runs out. The banding you see follows the old wall of that cavity, and where the centre stayed open the carver has left the druzy crystal pocket exposed.

Carving a skull around an open crystal pocket means the void decides the composition — the carver works toward the cavity and lets it fall where the stone allows, rather than placing it.
