Natural Chalcedony Hand Carved Crystal Heart

A heart worked in chalcedony jasper. At 15 inches and 4 g it wants a shelf of its own rather than a desk corner.

The warm honey and amber tones come from iron dispersed through the same cryptocrystalline quartz that makes blue chalcedony, which is why this stone shares that waxy lustre while reading completely differently in colour. It is translucent at the edges and grows solid toward the centre.

A carved heart lives or dies on symmetry and on the cleanness of the cleft. There is no detail to distract the eye, so the stone's own pattern does all the work.
