A horse worked in leopard skin jasper. At 6.3 inches and 3061 g it wants a shelf of its own rather than a desk corner.
The spotting comes from orbicular structures that crystallised in cooling volcanic rock, not from any layering, which is why the pattern has no grain direction. Every cut face is a fresh cross-section through them.
The difficulty in an animal figure is mass rather than detail: getting the shoulder, haunch and neck to carry weight convincingly while staying within the block the carver started from.
