A stone lizard worked in leopard skin jasper. At 9.8 inches and 2310 g it wants a shelf of its own rather than a desk corner.
Despite the name this is a rhyolite — a volcanic rock — and the rings are orbicular growths that formed as the melt cooled. Each spot is a small radial structure, so cutting through the block at any angle exposes a different arrangement of eyes and rings.
Animal subjects are judged on stance before detail. The weight has to sit right in the legs and shoulders, because a stone animal that looks unbalanced stays looking wrong no matter how fine the surface work is.
