7.1" Obsidian Crystal Skull with Wings

A skull with wings worked in black obsidian. At 7.1 inches and 2214 g it wants a shelf of its own rather than a desk corner.

This is glass rather than stone in the crystalline sense: lava chilled so quickly that its atoms never arranged themselves. That absence of structure is what lets obsidian hold an edge sharper than surgical steel, and what gives the polished surface its depthless black.

Carving a skull leaves nowhere to hide — the proportions are familiar enough that any error reads immediately. Most of the working time goes into the orbits and the line of the jaw.
