6.3" Geode Agate Hand Carved Skull

A skull worked in geode agate. At 6.3 inches and 2033 g it wants a shelf of its own rather than a desk corner.

The bands record the cavity filling from the outside in over a very long period; the open crystal pocket at the centre is where it never finished. Working this stone means carving toward that void rather than through it.

Carving a skull leaves nowhere to hide — the proportions are familiar enough that any error reads immediately. Most of the working time goes into the orbits and the line of the jaw.
