3.9" Yooperlite Hand Carved Crystal Elf Alien

An elf alien cut from a single block of yooperlite, 3.9 inches.

Yooperlite is a syenite carrying veins of fluorescent sodalite. In daylight it reads as ordinary grey speckled rock; under a UV light those veins glow a hot orange that maps out the internal structure of the stone.

Figure work asks for restraint — the face carries the whole piece, and overworking it is easier than underworking it. Drapery and hands are where the carving hours actually go.
