A point in blue chalcedony at 2.9 inches — small enough to close a hand around.

This is cryptocrystalline quartz — the crystals are there but far too small to see, which gives blue chalcedony its soft, slightly greasy sheen and its translucency. Held up to a lamp the pale blue-grey lets light through at the edges while the thicker passages stay opaque.

A tower is cut to stand, which means the base has to be true and the faces have to meet cleanly at the tip. The vertical form shows off banding that a rounded shape would break up.
