2.8" Blue Chalcedony Hand Carved Crystal Polished Stone

A stone in blue chalcedony at 2.8 inches — small enough to close a hand around.

This is cryptocrystalline quartz — the crystals are there but far too small to see, which gives blue chalcedony its soft, slightly greasy sheen and its translucency. Held up to a lamp the pale blue-grey lets light through at the edges while the thicker passages stay opaque.

Worked in the round from a single block, with the form chosen to suit what that block could give rather than imposed on it.
